Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Frederick II (Frederick the Great) facing right, the effigy rendered in a somewhat archaic style with a pronounced laurel wreath adorning the head and flowing drapery at the truncation. The peripheral legend FRIDERICUS BORUSSORUM REX (Frederick, King of the Prussians) runs in a circular arc around the entire field, with the truncation of the bust resting near the lower rim. The portrait is characteristic of the late Berlin Mint style employed during the final years of Frederick II's reign.
