| 裏面の説明 | The reverse depicts a stylized sailing vessel with tall masts and rigging rendered in low relief at center, representing the Pont de Bourgogne or local river heritage of Chalon-sur-Saône. The date '1997' appears in the right field, while a decorative border of beads or dentils frames the design. The legend inscribed along the lower periphery records the event dates, and additional value numerals appear in the upper left field. |

One of several hundred French municipal emergency currencies issued during the late 1990s, this piece belongs to a wave of local "euro" tokens produced by French towns and chambers of commerce in anticipation of the single currency — years before euro coins entered circulation in 2002. Chalon-sur-Saône, a Burgundian industrial city with a strong photographic heritage as the birthplace of Nicéphore Niépce, issued these as promotional and commercial tokens rather than legal tender, typically redeemable with participating local merchants.
The series has no official monetary status and was never sanctioned by the Banque de France.
