Austria's 3-euro "Supersaurs" series, launched in 2018, targets younger collectors through an intentionally accessible price point and vivid color printing on cupro-nickel blanks — a deliberate departure from the mint's premium silver programs. Argentinosaurus, the titanosaur sauropod discovered in Patagonia in 1987 and described by Bonaparte and Coria in 1993, remains one of the largest terrestrial animals yet identified by mass, with femur fragments alone exceeding two meters.
The series has proven unexpectedly popular with adult type collectors outside Austria, consistently selling out through the mint's subscription program.
