One of dozens of "euro anticipatoire" notes issued by French regional associations in the mid-1990s, this piece predates the official euro by several years — a deliberate provocation as much as a local currency experiment. The face value of 3 euros was pegged to 21 francs at a fixed rate, reflecting the conversion figures being debated at the time, and the notes were intended for use within the Blaye arrondissement economy only.
Bernard Veyri engraved the plate, which is the genuine point of interest here. Veyri was among France's most prolific engravers for these regional anticipatory issues, and his involvement gave the series a technical finish well above what most promotional local currencies achieved. ITVF in Valence, the intaglio printer responsible, brought the same taille-douce process used on official French fiscal documents.
