The Club des Collectionneurs des Yvelines was one of dozens of French regional collector clubs that issued fantasy "euro" pieces in the mid-1990s, anticipating the common currency years before the official 2002 introduction. These privately produced bimetallic pieces had no legal tender status and circulated only among hobbyists, yet they deliberately mimicked the physical format of the coins that would eventually replace the franc — a format the European Monetary Institute had been publicly circulating since 1995.
Voisins-le-Bretonneux is a planned commune within Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, itself a new town built from scratch after 1970 under France's ambitious postwar urbanization program.
