Issued by the Cercle Numismatique de Colmar, this is a local trade token rather than official currency — part of a broader French phenomenon of the 1990s in which regional numismatic clubs and merchants' associations produced franc-era "euros" in anticipation of monetary union, years before the actual euro existed.
