| 表面の説明 | Central device comprises the Portuguese coat of arms superimposed upon an armillary sphere, symbolizing Portugal's maritime empire. The quartered shield displays the traditional quinas and castles, surmounted by a mural crown flanked by smaller crowns above the sphere. The circumferential legend ESTADO·DA·INDIA arcs along the upper field, while two small floral rosettes flank the denomination 3$00 inscribed in large numerals across the lower field. The design is rendered in low relief with a beaded border encircling the entire obverse. |

Estado da Índia — Portuguese India — was living on borrowed time when these were struck. Nehru had been demanding the territory's transfer since 1950, and by 1958 the political pressure was unmistakable. Coins from this two-year window are among the last substantive issues before the Indian military seized Goa, Daman, and Diu in December 1961, ending over 450 years of Portuguese presence on the subcontinent. The colonial administration ceased virtually overnight, cutting short any further minting.
