Reverse description A vertical six-line Latin inscription, dedicating the piece to the Republic of Lucerne and recording the date and engraver's initials, is contained within an elaborate baroque cartouche. The cartouche is adorned with two palm branches flanking the sides, two shells at the upper corners, a floral garland, and scrollwork throughout. The inscription is rendered in capital letters with ligatures characteristic of eighteenth-century Swiss engraving. The overall design is symmetrically composed and finely executed, consistent with high-quality Swiss goldsmith work of the period.
