Aanvullende informatie

The Peace of Westphalia, signed in Osnabrück and Münster in October 1648, ended thirty years of war that had reduced some German territories to a fraction of their pre-war populations. Nuremberg, a principal venue for the closing congress negotiations, struck a series of commemorative pieces to mark the occasion — this klippe pattern among them. Struck in silver rather than gold, it was produced as a presentation piece, not for circulation.

The square klippe format was a deliberate choice for gift and display purposes, distinguishing these strikes from the round currency issue.
