| Obverse description | Facing figure of St. Peter, vested in pontifical robes and mitre with nimbus, holding a model of a multi-towered city (representing Bologna) in his left hand and a crozier in his right. Below the saint, a large quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of Bologna and papal emblems occupies the lower field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central design within a beaded border. |

| Reverse description | Seven lines of bold Roman capital inscription filling the entire field, recording the melting of sacred and secular treasures to relieve the famine of 1529 in Bologna. A small decorative device, possibly a papal emblem or ornament, appears at the top of the field above the first line of text. The legend is separated by pellets between words, and the date is given in Roman numerals as M·D·XXIX, with BONONIA appearing in the final line. The coin edge shows a milled or grained border. |
