Additional information

Trois-Pistoles takes its name from a 17th-century legend in which a sailor lost a silver cup worth three pistoles in the St. Lawrence River — a story the town has clung to with enough civic pride to put it on a trade dollar. This piece was issued by the local historical and genealogical society, one of dozens of such municipal trade tokens that circulated across Quebec during the early 2000s as promotional instruments for local commerce and tourism, redeemable at participating merchants rather than legal tender in any conventional sense.
