| Additional information |
Colonel William Ball commanded Bermuda's local militia during the American Revolutionary War period, a posting that carried genuine strategic weight given the island's position as a British provisioning hub in the Atlantic. Bermuda's ambiguous loyalties during that conflict — the islands traded gunpowder to American rebels in exchange for food in 1775, an episode known as the Gunpowder Plot of Bermuda — made figures like Ball administratively complicated for the Crown.
The Fr#152 reference places this squarely in the Frossard gold series for modern Bermuda proofs, a small-denomination gold format revived specifically for collector issues rather than any circulation purpose.
