Niue has operated as a prolific licensing hub for commemorative silver issues since the 1990s, contracting with private minting agencies to produce themed collector pieces under its nominal authority. This "Polish Radio" issue belongs to a wave of such coins commissioned around 2012 celebrating Polish cultural institutions — Polish Radio being the national public broadcaster founded in 1925, making that year its 87th anniversary.
