Descrizione del dritto	The obverse is engraved in a classical style typical of early North American private bank issues. At centre, a large numeral '3' is flanked by an allegorical vignette of two female figures in a pastoral landscape, with a smaller portrait of an elegantly dressed woman occupying the upper right corner and a seated Indigenous figure with an elephant vignette at the left. The bank title 'The MERCHANTS Bank' is inscribed in bold letterpress across the middle register, with the legend 'UPPER-CANADA.' at the top and the promise to pay 'THREE DOLLARS on demand' below, along with the place and date 'Toronto, May 4, 1837' in manuscript.
