| 正面描述 | Three-quarter-length draped bust of Johannes Blaeu facing slightly left, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The background features an engraved cartographic wind-rose pattern with radiating rhumb lines and coastal chart outlines, alluding to Blaeu's role as cartographer of the VOC. A celestial or navigational armillary sphere is visible to the lower right. The curved legend at the top of the field reads JOHANNES BLAEU / CARTOGRAAF VAN DE VOC, with an engraver's initials incused at the lower right of the design. |

Johannes Blaeu's father Willem founded the cartographic dynasty, but it was Johannes who produced the Atlas Maior in 1662 — at eleven volumes, the largest and most expensive book published in the seventeenth century. The VOC connection was direct: the company relied on Blaeu charts for navigation, and Johannes served as the VOC's official cartographer. The Amsterdam printworks burned down in 1672, destroying most of the plates.
