Additional information

Maundy Money is an English royal ceremonial tradition dating to the medieval period, in which the monarch distributes specially struck coins to elderly recipients — one coin of each denomination for each year of the sovereign's age. Cook Islands had no historical connection to this practice whatsoever. Its appearance here, licensed under the Cook Islands issuing authority in 2002, is a purely commercial arrangement exploiting the territory's willingness to lend its name to collectible coin programs with no domestic circulation intent.
