| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin with a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform fashion reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 大中通寶 (Da Zhong Tong Bao). The characters are bold and deeply cast within a plain raised rim, set against a flat field. The calligraphy is well-formed and characteristic of late Yuan transitional coinage associated with Zhu Yuanzhang's Great Zhong State. |
