Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Pope Pius XII, depicted wearing his characteristic rimless spectacles and papal vestments with an ornate pectoral cross and the papal coat of arms — featuring the tiara, crossed keys, and a dove — rendered in fine relief at the base of the portrait. The circumferential Latin legend reads PIUS XII PONTIFEX MAXIMUS, with the birth and death years 1876 and 1958 flanking the bust at lower left and lower right respectively. The portrait is executed in a refined, medallic style with deeply mirrored proof fields contrasting against the frosted effigy.
