Issued during Turkey's long inflationary spiral of the 1990s, when the lira had lost so much value that a face denomination of three million was unremarkable for a commemorative coin. The series pairing the Turkish Republic with allegorical female imagery was produced in the late 1990s as part of Darphane's ongoing collector-focused silver program — a category that grew sharply as domestic purchasing power collapsed and hard-currency numismatic exports became commercially attractive.
