Behind him, a scene in relief depicts a row of Allied military officers standing at attention, while to the right a figure is shown signing documents at a table, commemorating the Japanese surrender ceremony. The legend 'MacARTHUR' arcs across the upper field, with '2 SEPTEMBRE 1945' inscribed in the lower exergue.
