The Central Bank of China Printing Works was stretched extremely thin during the final years of the Second Sino-Japanese War, producing notes at an accelerating pace as hyperinflation dismantled the purchasing power of the fabi currency system. By 1945 the denomination itself tells the story — 2500 Yuan would have been unthinkable a decade earlier, when the fabi was introduced in 1935 at relatively stable values. Wartime military expenditure and the loss of coastal industrial revenue drove the spiral.
P#304 is not among the rarer emissions of this period, but the print quality from the Chungking-era Printing Works is noticeably cruder than prewar output from the American Bank Note Company or Dah Tung.
