Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 and has never received formal recognition from any United Nations member state, yet it has issued its own currency and commemorative coinage for decades. This piece exploits a quirk of the unrecognized-nation collector market: by titling Elizabeth II as "Queen of Canada" rather than "Queen of the United Kingdom," the issuer sidesteps any implied territorial claim while still leveraging her image for a commemorative with broad international appeal. The 90th birthday occasion is incidental — the Canadian title is the deliberate commercial hook.
