Additional information

Tanzania's large-format silver issues of the late 1990s were produced primarily for the collector export market, with virtually no intention of domestic circulation. The 2500 shilingi denomination had no practical monetary function at the time of issue — Tanzania's everyday economy operated in coins worth a fraction of a percent of this piece's face value, let alone its silver content.

The hyena, routinely underestimated as mere scavenger, is in fact a primary predator across East African savanna ecosystems — a corrective point that wildlife conservation organizations were actively pressing during this period.
