备注

Banco Nacional Ultramarino, the Portuguese colonial issuing bank chartered in 1864, produced this 2500 Reis note for circulation in its overseas territories — though the specific territory this series was intended for requires careful attention to the overprint or place-of-payment text, as BNU used near-identical Bradbury Wilkinson base designs across multiple colonial postings simultaneously.

Bradbury Wilkinson's intaglio work for BNU in this period is consistently fine. The 1909 date places this note shortly before Portugal's monarchy collapsed in October 1910, after which the entire colonial currency framework came under administrative pressure during the early Republican reorganization.
