Velké Losiny has operated a hand paper mill continuously since 1596, making it one of the oldest functioning mills of its kind in Europe. The Czech National Bank's decision to mark it with a gold issue reflects a broader series commemorating historic Czech technical and craft monuments — not royal palaces or military victories, but working industrial heritage still in daily operation at the time of minting.
The .9999 fine specification places this outside typical Czech gold coinage fineness, which ran at .9860 for much of the twentieth century.
