Burkina Faso has no direct historical connection to the transatlantic slave trade as an issuing authority — this is a commemorative struck for the international collector market, almost certainly produced by a European private mint under license. The 1848 French abolition decree, which technically applied to territories under French colonial administration, did not reach the region then known as Upper Volta; formal French colonial control there wasn't established until the 1890s.
