Reverse description Central device depicts a standing figure of Queen Isabella of Castile, crowned and robed, extending her hand toward Christopher Columbus who kneels before her to her right, with a second kneeling attendant figure to her left. Three period sailing vessels, including a large carrack with cross-emblazoned sails, fill the background in detailed relief, commemorating Columbus's voyage to San Salvador. The upper legend TWENTY-FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS arcs around the periphery, with SAN SALVADOR appearing centrally below it; the lower legend reads QUEEN ISABELLA AND COLUMBUS, with the date 1987 in the exergue, all enclosed by a beaded border.
