正面铭文 조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행 15g 999 1997
背面描述 A colorful enameled scene depicts three figures seated around a negotiating table in an outdoor setting, evoking the diplomatic handover of Hong Kong after 99 years of British administration. A palm tree with green foliage rises in the upper right background, while a sailing vessel is visible on the water in the middle distance. The curved legend '99 Years Hong Kong' arches across the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering against a dark ground. The denomination '250 WON' appears in a raised cartouche at the base of the design.

附加信息

North Korea issued a surprisingly large run of commemorative silver pieces throughout the 1990s, nearly all of them targeting the international collector market rather than domestic circulation — hard currency was the point, not patriotism. The return of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty in July 1997 offered an obvious occasion, and Pyongyang moved quickly to capitalize on it alongside dozens of other mints worldwide doing exactly the same thing.

KM#526 was struck by the Mint of Korea and distributed almost entirely through European dealers.
