Somalia's Olympic commemorative program in the 1990s was essentially a licensing exercise — the government issued coins for events with no national connection whatsoever, targeting the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. The 1998 Nagano Games were held in the Japanese Alps in February of that year, the first Winter Olympics awarded to Asia.
No Somali athletes competed at Nagano.
