| 正面描述 | Central field displays the Somali national coat of arms, featuring a shield bearing a five-pointed star supported by two leopards rampant, surmounted by a mural crown, with two crossed palm fronds below tied by a ribbon. The legend REPUBLIC OF SOMALIA arcs along the upper periphery of the middle ring, while the denomination 250 SHILLINGS is inscribed along the lower periphery. The design is rendered across a trimetallic flan, with the brass outer ring framed by a beaded border. |

Somalia's mid-1990s coinage was produced under conditions of near-total state collapse — the central government had ceased to function in 1991, and coins issued under the Somali name during this period were largely commercial products aimed at the collector market rather than instruments of any functioning treasury. The 1998 trimetallic issues, including this piece, were almost certainly struck by a European mint on contract.
KM#49a distinguishes the trimetallic version from the bimetallic KM#49, both sharing the ostrich design but differing in the addition of the brass outer ring.
