| 裏面の説明 | The reverse commemorates the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989, depicting a dramatic scene in the inner copper-nickel field: a crowd of jubilant figures gathered before a section of the Wall, above which rises the Brandenburg Gate bathed in a radiant sun. Flanking figures with pickaxes symbolise the demolition of the Wall, while a dove in flight appears above. An olive branch frames the lower portion of the inner field. The brass outer ring carries a trilingual legend in raised Latin capitals reading FREEDOM·UNITY·HOPE in English, FREIHEIT·EINHEIT·HOFFNUNG in German, and LIBERTÉ·UNITÉ·ESPÉRANCE in French, with BERLIN prominently inscribed at the base and NOVEMBER,1989 along the lower right arc. |

Somalia's 1989 coinage was produced under the government of Siad Barre, whose regime was entering its terminal phase — the civil war that would collapse the state entirely by 1991 was already accelerating. The Berlin issue belongs to a set of trimetallic pieces commemorating world capitals, a format the Central Bank used to generate hard currency through collector sales rather than domestic circulation. Most never saw a Somali market.
KM# 70 is among the scarcer pieces in the capitals series, with collector demand having been limited from the outset by the country's political instability in the years immediately following issue.
