P#S347 belongs to the chaotic interlude of Ukrainian provincial finance during the Russian Civil War, when Bolshevik-controlled institutions attempted to assert banking authority across towns that changed hands repeatedly. The Zhytomyr branch of the Narodny Bank issued these notes under Soviet auspices, but Zhytomyr itself was fought over by Red Army forces, the Ukrainian People's Republic, and Polish troops across 1919–1920 — meaning many of these notes circulated, if at all, in conditions of near-total administrative collapse.
Provincial Narodny Bank issues from this period were often printed locally with whatever materials were available, which accounts for the variation in paper quality and impression consistency found across surviving examples of this series.
