Obverse description Central vignette with a portrait of Count Matvei Ivanovich Platov (1753–1818), Russian general who commanded the Don Cossacks during the Napoleonic Wars and founded Novocherkassk as capital of the Don Host Province. The portrait is set within an ornate frame with guilloche underprint, accompanied by the denomination in Cyrillic lettering. Issuance text from the Rostov-on-Don Control of the State Bank appears in the lower portion of the note.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in brown and black tones with an ornate rectangular frame incorporating Art Nouveau-style drapery and floral motifs at the corners and borders. Denomination numerals '250' appear in circular cartouches at left and right, with a bold Cyrillic legal tender text block at centre, set against a guilloche underprint repeating the denomination. A lower panel bears the counterfeiting warning inscription.
