Comments

The Armed Forces of South Russia, under Denikin's command, controlled Kherson only briefly during the chaotic multi-front struggle of 1919. Provincial food supply administrations issuing currency was not unusual in this period — the breakdown of central authority across former imperial territories meant that quasi-governmental bodies routinely printed their own obligations to pay suppliers and requisition grain, with no realistic expectation of later redemption.

The Pick S-prefix here signals it as a South Russia regional issue, distinct from the main AFSR currency series. Kherson changed hands multiple times that year between Bolshevik, White, and Ukrainian forces, which severely limited the operational life of any paper issued under this authority.
