The Twelve Apostles was a 120-gun ship of the line launched at Sevastopol in 1841, designed by the naval architect Semyon Chernявsky after Russian studies of British first-rate construction. She fought at the Battle of Sinop in November 1853 — the last major fleet engagement fought entirely under sail — where Russian forces under Admiral Nakhimov destroyed the Ottoman squadron. The ship was scuttled in 1854 to blockade Sevastopol harbor against Anglo-French forces during the Crimean War siege.
