Additional information

The Imperatritsa Mariya was the lead ship of her class of dreadnoughts, launched in 1913 for the Black Sea Fleet and sunk in Sevastopol harbour in October 1916 under circumstances that remain disputed — sabotage, accident, and negligence have all been argued seriously by naval historians. The internal magazine explosion that destroyed her killed over 200 crew.

Dmitriev I.S. refers to the engraver credited on the die, a relatively rare attribution for modern Russian commemorative coinage.
