| Reverse description | The reverse presents a large Cross of the Order of Christ at center, with flared terminals dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing a small pellet or ornamental device. A crowned royal cipher or armillary sphere appears at the center intersection of the cross. The field is bordered by a beaded inner circle, with a partial Latin legend visible along the outer periphery. The irregular, planchet shape and rough surface texture are consistent with the hammered silver coinage produced in colonial Brazil during the seventeenth century. |
