Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupy the central field within a D-shaped inner circle, depicting the heraldic eagle perched on a nopal cactus rising from a rocky islet, clutching a serpent in its beak and talons, with an oak and laurel garland below. A border of raised pellets frames the design between the inner circle and the outer rim. The legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery. Below the inner circle, in the lower flat exergual panel, the inscription 1/4 ONZA DE ORO and the gold fineness LEY 0.999 are inscribed.
