| Obverse description | Central depiction of the façade of the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field. The inscription MACAU arcs along the upper legend, while the date 1996 appears in the lower field. Macau's lunar gold series was issued under Portuguese administration in the final years before the 1999 handover to China, making these pieces among the last sovereign gold coinage produced for the territory under European governance. The 1996 Rat issue falls squarely in that window.
KM#80 is a low-mintage collector piece with limited secondary market depth — partly because the series attracted stronger interest from Southeast Asian buyers than Western collectors, compressing the pool of documented auction appearances.
