| Description de l’avers | Diademed and draped bust of Emperor Justinian I facing right, the diadem adorned with pendilia descending beside the neck. The imperial robe is ornamented along the neckline by a prominent row of pellets, rendered in the late antique stylized manner characteristic of early Byzantine silver coinage. The portrait is executed in high relief with individualized facial features, the hair rendered in careful parallel strands beneath the diadem. The encircling Latin legend runs along the periphery of the flan. |
