Reverse description A heroic bust of a miner is depicted in high relief, facing left, shown bare-chested and wearing a miner's helmet, with a pickaxe or mining tool resting over his shoulder, conveying the strength and dignity of the Limburg coal mining community. The upper legend reads HANDEN AF VAN DE LIMBURGSE MIJNEN (Hands off the Limburg mines), a political slogan protesting the threatened closure of the Limburg coalfields. Along the lower border the date 19/2/84 is inscribed alongside the acronyms LGMP/EGMP, denoting the Limburgse and Europese Gemeenschappelijke Mijnwerkersvakbond (miners' unions), and the denomination 250.
