Within and below the crescent, the word 'Ankara' is inscribed in stylized Ottoman Arabic calligraphy, followed by the date '23 Nisan 1336' (23 April 1920, the founding date of the Grand National Assembly) in Arabic numerals and script. The design is framed by a raised inner border and an outer beaded rim, giving the obverse a concentric, multi-tiered appearance characteristic of early Republican Turkish gold coinage. |
