Senegal is a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, whose common currency is issued by the BCEAO — meaning Dakar has no independent mint authority and strikes no coins domestically. This piece, like virtually all Senegalese numismatic issues, was produced under contract by a European private mint for the collector market, with no meaningful connection to Senegalese monetary policy or circulation.
