Additional information

This piece is one of several dozen similar micro-gold issues released under West African CFA franc branding but bearing no meaningful connection to Senegal — the country functions here as a licensing convenience for a European bullion and novelty coin producer. The Falkland Islands wolf, Dusicyon australis, was the only native land mammal of the Falkland Islands and was extinct by 1876, hunted out by settlers who feared for their livestock.

Darwin encountered it during the Beagle voyage and reportedly noted its fatal lack of fear toward humans.
