Fujairah was among the least populous and most isolated of the Trucial States, with no functioning mint infrastructure and minimal prior coinage history. The patterns produced in 1968 appeared in the final years before federation — the UAE would not formally unite until 1971 — and many were struck by foreign mints speculatively, aimed more at the collector and proof-set market than any genuine monetary purpose. Whether this piece ever circulated is not a serious question.
