| Obverse description | The obverse bears a polychrome reproduction of Jules-Eugène Lenepveu's 1872 ceiling fresco Les Muses et les Heures du jour et de la nuit, executed for the Palais Garnier and installed in 1875. The composition occupies the full field of the coin, rendered in vibrant colour against an ornate architectural setting faithful to the original painted ceiling. The legend PLAFOND DU PALAIS GARNIER and the attribution J. E. LENEPVEU PARIS - 1875 appear within the design, alongside the national inscription REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE and the face value 250 EURO. |
