Reverse description A winged Genius, depicted in dynamic neoclassical style, stands before a classical temple fitted with a lightning rod, holding a lightning bolt aloft in his raised hand. At his feet lie a broken crown and sceptre, symbolising the triumph of science and liberty over tyranny. The full Latin legend ERIPUIT COELO FULMEN SCEPTRUMQUE TYRANNIS — 'He snatched the thunderbolt from the sky and the sceptre from the tyrants,' a phrase inspired by Turgot — encircles the design. The denomination 250 EURO and the attribution SCULPSIT ET DICAVIT AUG. DUPRE ANNO MDCCLXXXIV (1784) appear in the lower field, referencing the original medal created by Dupré.
