| Reverse description | High-relief scene depicting the American General-in-Chief on horseback leading a cavalry charge, followed by infantry troops, as the British adversary is shown in full retreat and rout. The composition is closely based on Augustin Dupré's original reverse design for the Comitia Americana Cowpens medal, signed DUPRE INV ET F in the lower field. The exergue bears the inscription FVGATIS CAPTIS AVT CAESIS AD COWPENS HOSTIBVS XVII · JAN · MDCCLXXXI, recording the date and outcome of the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781. The upper legend reads VICTORIA LIBERTATIS VINDEX, and the denomination 250 EURO has been added to the design in accordance with modern French coinage requirements. |
