Additional information

The 250-Euro denomination was introduced by Münze Österreich in 1998 as part of an ambitious bimetallic collector series — technically demanding pieces that required precise tolerances to seat the silver centre within the gold ring without gaps or distortion. The Vienna Treasury series drew directly on the Kunstkammer and Schatzkammer collections of the Habsburgs, one of the most intact dynastic treasure hoards in Europe, assembled over five centuries largely through inheritance, conquest, and strategic marriage rather than purchase.

At the time of issue, Austria had not yet adopted the euro; these were legal tender denominated in schillings' successor currency ahead of the 2002 changeover, making the face value itself a transitional artifact.
