Reverse description A stylised dog in the traditional Chinese decorative manner is depicted in the centre of the field, shown in a recumbent pose facing left with head raised alertly. The background is filled with an elaborate low-relief pattern of auspicious clouds rendered in a classical Chinese artistic style. To the upper right, the two Chinese cyclical characters 甲戌 — denoting the Year of the Dog in the Chinese sexagenary cycle — appear prominently in the field. Below the dog, the denomination $250 is inscribed in large characters, with the legend 1 TROY OZ 999.9 FINE GOLD along the lower rim.
